The Anand Spine Group is excited to announce that renowned spine surgeon Dr. Neel Anand, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of Spine Trauma at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, has been appointed President of The Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS) for the 2025–2026 term.
Dr. Anand, a world leader in the development and advancement of minimally invasive spine surgery techniques, has dedicated his career to improving outcomes for patients suffering from complex spinal disorders. His appointment as President reflects decades of innovation, research, and leadership in transforming how spine surgery is performed worldwide.

Founded in 2007, SMISS is an international organization devoted to advancing the field of minimally invasive spine surgery through education, research, and collaboration among spine surgeons, scientists, and industry partners. The society’s mission is to improve patient outcomes and reduce recovery times by promoting safe, effective, and evidence-based surgical techniques.
As President, Dr. Anand will guide SMISS’s global initiatives, including expanding surgeon training programs, supporting research in minimally invasive techniques, and fostering international collaboration among spine specialists.
Dr. Anand has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is a frequent lecturer at major spine conferences around the world. His clinical expertise includes minimally invasive correction of spinal deformities, motion preservation surgery, and the treatment of complex spinal trauma.
